{"id":16794,"date":"2022-10-14T13:45:55","date_gmt":"2022-10-14T11:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.defencetech.it\/?p=16794"},"modified":"2025-03-27T13:20:23","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T12:20:23","slug":"research-investments-in-italy-where-we-are","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tinextadefence.it\/en\/research-investments-in-italy-where-we-are\/","title":{"rendered":"Research investment in Italy: where do we stand?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a year since former Prime Minister Mario Draghi, speaking about the Recovery Plan, stressed the need to invest in the <strong>Search<\/strong> and in the <strong>Development<\/strong> to adapt the country to the challenges of the current times.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reality, investment in research and development in Italy is far from satisfactory. According to the latest ISTAT data, dating back to 2018, expenditure in the research sector was <strong>25.2 billion<\/strong> (source: Istat), corresponding to approx. <strong>1.4% of GDP<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By way of comparison, research expenditure in France is around 2.2% of GDP, in Germany 3% and in the UK 1.7%.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investing less means having fewer resources, fewer professionals employed in research, resulting in a brain drain from our country, and ultimately inferior results to other European countries, on which we therefore end up being dependent in several respects.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Defence Tech Group <strong>strongly believes in Research<\/strong>, and the <strong>internal investments<\/strong> and the activation of <strong>collaboration<\/strong> with leading Italian universities are continuous.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are just some of the topics we are developing: <strong>CyberSpace<\/strong>, <strong>Quantum Computing<\/strong>, <strong>Bragg gratings<\/strong> applied to fibre-optic sensors for measurement and monitoring of critical infrastructure.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La <strong>technological sovereignty<\/strong> is a goal and can only be achieved through appropriate public-private ecosystems that foster it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Source: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.valigiablu.it\/ricerca-italia-investimenti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>https:\/\/www.valigiablu.it\/ricerca-italia-investimenti\/<\/em><\/a><em><\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00c8 passato un anno da quando l\u2019ex premier Mario Draghi, parlando del Recovery Plan, ha sottolineato la necessit\u00e0 di investire nella Ricerca e nello Sviluppo per adeguare il Paese alle sfide dei tempi correnti.\u00a0 In realt\u00e0, gli investimenti in Ricerca e Sviluppo in Italia sono lontani dall\u2019essere soddisfacenti.
