A real marathon in which digital skills are running: The Big Hack, Maker Faire Rome's hackathon, returns for its sixth edition from 24 to 27 June.
The initiative, promoted by the Campania Region and organised by Innova Camera, a special company of the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and Sviluppo Campania, with the support of the Apple Developer Academy of the Federico II University, calls together designers, makers, engineers, students, entrepreneurs and communication experts.
The objective of the hackathon is to create teams that, starting from the challenges proposed by the partner companies, realise a strategic project capable of solving the problem presented.
Technology companies participating as partners include Defence Tech, Thales Alenia Spacea joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%) and Telespazio, a joint venture between Leonardo (67%) and Thales (33%), which together propose a cyberspace-themed challenge entitled 'Space Attack'.
The aim of the challenge is to create a system to decrypt encrypted, maliciously intercepted messages travelling between a satellite and the Ground Segment. To do this, each team can draw on their knowledge of management, engineering, coding and any other useful skills to decipher the messages.
Defence Tech is a hub of technological excellence working for cybersecurity on Earth and Space and for the creation of advanced management systems for governmental and non-governmental groups. Representing it during The Big Hack will be Aaron Visaggio, Chief Scientist Office.
Combining 40 years of experience and a unique diversity of skills, talents and cultures, the architects of Thales Alenia Space design and deliver high-tech solutions for telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, environmental management, exploration, science and orbital infrastructure. During the hackathon will be represented by Orestes TrematerraHead of Advanced Technologies.
Telespazio works to bring Space closer to Earth for the benefit of citizens, institutions and companies, in areas ranging from the design and development of space systems, to the management of launch services and in-orbit satellite control; from Earth observation services, integrated communications, satellite navigation and localisation, to scientific programmes. During the hackathon will be represented by Stefano BecoHead of Technology, IPR and Product Policy.
