With Space Keywords We explore a new keyword every day to better understand the domain of space.
Today's keyword is Satellite Navigation.
Satellite navigation allows vehicles, planes, ships and mobile devices to accurately determine their position, speed and time, anywhere on earth.
This capacity is based on GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems), which use constellations of orbiting satellites to transmit signals containing position and time. Ground-based receivers, such as those in smartphones or on-board systems, calculate position by comparing the simultaneous signals of at least four satellites.
The main global satellite navigation systems include GPS of the United States, GLONASS of Russia, BeiDou of China and Galileo of the European Union.
Tinexta Defence actively participates in the Galileo programme by supporting day-to-day operations and the definition of the related second-generation system.
