The increasing digitisation of our society has exponentially expanded the amount of data generated, exchanged and stored every day. In parallel, the complexity of the investigative contexts in which the Digital Forensics is called upon to operate (cloud infrastructure, mobile devices, IoT, blockchain, artificial intelligence).
In this scenario, the new study DFIR offers an in-depth analysis of the implications of Digital Forensics in the field of privacy, highlighting the operational, regulatory and ethical challenges that characterise contemporary digital investigations, with the aim of outlining an operational model for dealing with new digital threats.
The investigation starts from the observation that modern forensic techniques, if not properly balanced, can generate significant privacy risks, compromising the rights of data subjects.
