Next’s Cybersecurity Forecast 2026 published by Google Cloud Security in cooperation with Mandiant confirms an evolution that is now evident: cybersecurity has entered a phase of systemic maturity, in which technology, geopolitics and artificial intelligence are increasingly interlinked.
The report highlights three main directions:
- the pervasive adoption of AI, both as an enabler for defence (Agentic SOC) and as a multiplier of offensive capabilities;
- increasingly industrialised cybercrime, with resilient infrastructures, use of blockchain for C2 and exploitation of new blind spots such as hypervisors;
- the central role of state actors, with persistent operations on supply chains, critical infrastructures and strategic digital ecosystems.
In this scenario, the need for organisations to evolve from a reactive approach to a proactive and risk-drivenintegrating automation, advanced threat intelligence and governance models consistent with NIS2.
