With Space Keywords We explore a new keyword every day to better understand the domain of space.
Today's keyword is Observation of the universe.
Observation of the Universe encompasses all scientific activities aimed at studying the structure, evolution and composition of the cosmos, using optical, infrared, radio and space instruments.
Two main disciplines guide its investigation: theastrophysicswhich analyses the behaviour and physical properties of stars, planets, galaxies, black holes and interstellar matter, and the cosmologywhich studies the universe as a whole, its origin, evolution and ultimate destiny.
Observation of the cosmos has enabled us to establish how ordinary matter, (stars, galaxies, living beings) constitutes only 5% of the universeas the remaining 95% consists of dark matter and dark energyinvisible components that are not directly observable and do not emit or interact with light.
However, the study of the universe is not only of theoretical value: it stimulates technological innovations in numerous fields (advanced materials, sensors, telecommunications, medicine), with a direct impact on our daily lives.
One of the main missions launched by theEuropean Space Agency (ESA) for the study of deep space is Euclid (ESA), a space telescope designed to map about a third of the sky in order to unravel the nature of dark matter and dark energy.
