They not only solved the problem, but also created additional software to identify and solve the system vulnerabilities: the SpaceCipher team, among the participants in the Big Hack 2022thus won the first prize for the Space-themed challenge.
The challenge, entitled 'The Space Attack'was conceived and promoted by Defence Tech, Thales Alenia Space and Telespaziothree major Italian companies in the Space and Cyber Security sector.
The objective of the challenge: to decipher encrypted messages transmitted from a space base to the target satellite. The SpaceCipher team deployed skills, creativity, cunning and ingenuity to do what was required, and one step further, like true professionals.
Oreste Trematerra, Head of Advanced Technologies at Thales Alenia Space, commented: "We are always looking for innovative ideas, this event was a good opportunity for all of us: we saw interesting projects realised in the only 48 hours available to the teams who agreed to participate in our challenge. I would like to congratulate everyone and not only the winner".
Aaron Visaggio, Chief Scientist Officer of Defence Tech, added: "It is a great honour to have been able to take part in such a stimulating initiative for these young people and for the companies. Discussing a topic as central as Cyber Security, which is the focus of our reality, was a great enrichment and allowed these brilliant students to have fun and demonstrate their skills on a broader scale. This event, given the quality, decisiveness and ingenuity of the results proposed by all the teams, demonstrated the importance of investing in young minds and their future".
We would like to thank all participants for their ideas, tenacity and skill during these two days.
