Every year, the8 June, we celebrate the World Oceans Dayan opportunity to reflect on the need to protect this immense global resource.
In fact, the oceans cover beyond the 70% of the planet and perform essential functions for life on Earth: they produce more than 50% of the oxygen we breathe, absorb about 30% of the carbon dioxide emitted and regulate the global climate.
Yet, pollution, acidification and warming waters are undermining marine balances, with real effects on biodiversity and human communities.
Preserving the oceans is no longer an option that can be postponed: it is a collective responsibility to be assumed today, with determination and vision.
